The Waves of Darkness

During the pandemic, I went back to China and took remote classes for a year. With twelve hours time zone difference, darkness became my dear companion. At night I see more traces of livelihood and movement than daytime: the lamps of the apartment windows gradually lit up and turned off, signifying the movement of people going back home and falling asleep. The shadows of human figures and the objects they put on the windowsill reflected out. When the world has nothing else but dotted lights at night, they are not the artificial, lifeless lights anymore but the ones with colors and spirits, imposing and possessing the whole world. I, become the quiet listener of the world too.
